Goodbye to 2018…
20th December 2018
This is my first ever blog, the first of many that is under the new project – Below The Belt. I hope it feels to you like a “I’m welcome here”, because you are.
My name is Callum Hancock. I’m 27 years old. A scaffolder by trade and a Professional Boxer, undefeated in 9 fights. But there’s also something else that is part of me – I’m a male survivor of childhood sexual abuse.
Outside the ring is where I have what I believe is my biggest fight, the battle to reclaim myself from the darkness AND to #BreakTheSilence. Some of you reading this might already have seen me talk about my story in the newspaper (click here to see) or on TV (click here to see) and over the next few months, I want to write more blogs and share as much as I can so that if anybody out there is reading this, I hope you can find comfort, reassurance, feel connected and the rest of the feelings I myself once upon a time wanted to feel. I want you to know that whilst you might feel it, your not on your own.
I believe you.
There are people and places out there that love and care about you, I know that personally because I went to those places and STILL go to those places now.
Below the Belt can help signpost you to those places and in time, give you information that will help you in your healing journey. You can also access the male survivor helpline on 0808 800 5005 when you feel its necessary.
However, there is no rush and you only need to do so when YOU feel the time is right for YOURSELF. Be kind to yourself, be patient with yourself and know your worth – keep believing in yourself as much as I believe in you.
You know, lions look out for each other in their pride.
We are survivors, that’s our pride.
So goodbye to 2018 and bring on 2019, a new fight and a new year of healing.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Cal
